My Children

We come into this world… so pure. Fragile as breath. Blind to the weight of what’s waiting for us. I held my children like this. And I thought—surely—surely we would build something better. But we grow… don’t we? We grow teeth. We learn to lie. We learn to fear each other. We forget how to look — really look — into another’s eyes. And before we know it, we’re no longer reaching for wonder. We’re reaching for power. Or noise. Or the next place to hide. I watch you now. All of you. Running faster, shouting louder. Drowning in everything you thought you wanted. And this child… this tiny soul… He doesn’t know yet. He doesn’t know that the world will try to take his light. That it will teach him to choose sides. To close doors. To forget softness. But maybe… maybe if someone whispers the truth early enough, he’ll remember. That he came from light. That he was born into silence for a reason. And that the ones who hold him now… must teach him how not to lose himself in the storm. We all began this way. We just… We just forgot…
