Adagio

When I first wrote the score for my film Catherine, I never imagined the path it would open. When Eddie Van Halen heard the music, he asked to license it — and from there, an incredible creative partnership was born.

That partnership reached its peak when Eddie and I sat side by side, scoring my film Sacred Sin. What many people don’t know is that beyond the guitar, Eddie was a classically trained pianist — and yes, he also played cello. Some of my fondest memories are of him at the piano or bowing the cello while I shaped melodies on keys beside him.

As I return to Catherine with a new series, I’ve been diving into my old notes and reflecting on those extraordinary sessions. Eddie is no longer with us, but I often catch myself imagining: what if he were still here, sitting next to me, working out this score together?

I think it would sound something like Adagio.

This music is my way of honoring those moments — a bridge between memory and creation, between what was and what could have been.
